Retiring.

Maybe they'll replace him with someone who believes the customer has to be a priority?

Stock up 7-8% on the news. So I guess that means he's helping shareholders.

Tech journalist emerges from cave. Wonders why no one liked Ballmer.
Reading the reactions to Steve Ballmer's announcement that he will step down as CEO of Microsoft sometime in the next 12 months, I was struck by the amount of vitriol directed at the man and at Microsoft. While I won't dispute that Microsoft has stumbled badly in mobile and online, you can't ignore the fact that the company has grown significantly with Ballmer at the helm.

Grown significantly stupider, more incompetent, and less likely to be anything except a software development tools maker in a few decades given their current rates of retardation.
