Got this for the bedroom (for the viewing of porn, of course) and because I wanted Netflix in there, and this player claimed to be Netflix ready.
Ordered it for about $100 from Amazon.
Before it arrived I had already installed a Cat-5e line, because I wanted to be hard wired. I think it has wireless, but who cares. I want it wired.
The menu interface is identical to that of the Sony PS3... you scroll side to side among categories, and up and down within that category. Not only does it play Blu Ray disks and have Netflix, but there's a couple score more video and music services I have never even heard of besides the big ones like Amazon Video, Vudu, and Hulu.
And today, I noticed it did something I didn't even expect... it automatically found my PS3 Media Server I have running in the basement, and I can access all of my stored media on that drive with zero additional setup, so basically it also acts as a Networked Media Streamer.
Pretty damned cool so far.
Only downside so far is that it is not gigabit LAN, just 10/100. Still making observations about streaming speed.
As far as the Sony brand, I plan on always buying the Sony BD players since they own the technology, and *should* always have updates ready when the BD Java standards get changed. Got burned with my original Samsung BD player that was slow with the updates.
