TWC is finally rolling it out in my area, although it seems to be a soft launch with nothing official on their website.
John>How may I assist you today?
Catt>I was wondering if wideband internet was available whereI live?
John>Yes it is.
Catt>What are the prices for it? What levels of service are available?

I just peed a little.

They are offering 5/30 and 5/50. 5/30 is $79, 5/50 is $99.

Signed up for 5/30.

I'd pay $80 for that.

Then I'll cancel it when they impose usage caps and I can no longer enjoy the speed.

LOL

We'll see. I'm more excited by the 5mbps up than the 30 down. 10 down was fine.

I'm becoming a heavy Netflix using household. I want the higher down speed, but of course I'd like the higher up speed, as well, and I'd take advantage of it.

I think Netflix is using their $8 plan to get everywhere as fast as possible, so when usage caps come peeps will bitch about it, more.

The install went pretty smoothly. However, over the next two days, my wireless cut out a lot. The new device is a gigabit router, cable modem, and 802.11n wireless all in one device.

Well, I got sick of my wireless cutting out, googled the nets, and found a backdoor configuration page that lets you change the cable modem to bridge mode. I did this, but the wireless was still wonky, even with my new devices. Turns out customers cannot disable their own radio. So I re-assigned it to another channel, figuring it must be conflicting with mine, and that seems to have done it.

Since then things have been pretty stable. So I'd give the TWC device a 2/10, but the Internet about a 8.5/10. My friend's Verizon FTTH faster felt faster. You can definitely notice the speed, but the FIOS service's latency seemed lower.

Torrents are crazy fast now that I actually have some upload speed to share out. The fastest download speed I've seen is about 25mbps for real-world file downloads (ISOs, newsbin, etc). I had to email out some 6MB emails to clients, and they went super fast.

All in all, definitely worth a $20/month upgrade.

Just did an online chat with the tech support; fastest I have available is 8/512K. So that sucks. He said I'd get an email with the wideband was available.

Holding breath.

So I've been using a DLink Gaming Fuel gigabit (or something) router for a while, but it has no wireless. So I've been using an older router, then upgrade to an 802.11n AP attached to the router.

I've been feeling like the wireless just isn't as snappy as the (rarely used, but wired) server in my house. Today, my new http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127215 arrived.

Wow. It's night and day on the wireless in terms of being faster. Primarily in terms of response time. With the highspeed Internet, I was certainly getting the right amount of bandwidth, but pages felt a bit slow, etc. The router has been a major step up.
