Have you ever seriously used an E-R diagram for anything? It's like taking a logical design scheme and shooting out its kneecaps.

Data-Base Administrator.

I am not a DBA, but I've done my share of table and proc development. Never done an ERD. Foreign Key? Wuzzat?

They just seem so damned worthless to me, like someone intentionally went out of their way to make them bafflingly limited.

Fucking lame-ass database course.

I'm a fake DBA, but I only used ERDs as a developer. I usually would do a logical diagram, then follow with a physical table diagram. Used them for programs with over 15 entities, going up to 200-300 entities.

I like em, but almost all my development is very DB-centric, so getting the DB right matters a ton.

Mayhaps it just reminds me too much of the fucking UML diagrams in the equally fucking lame-ass software engineering course.

Maybe. I just think of it as a map of the database. Helpful for designing ETL processes and such.

Having come of age on an AS/400, I've always thought the job of "DBA" was a scam. I've never seen a dedicated DBA in a 400 shop, and I've been around and in some huge shops.

So's auto insurance. But it still turns a profit.
