I use Outlook 2000 as an email client, wife uses Outlook Express.

I have a permanent server.

I'd like to set up some sort of half-ass mail server on which all the email accounts in the house will keep their mail stored on the server, rather than the client. This will make client scratch/reloads a little more streamlined when I don't need to backup email accounts.

So how do I do this?

I don't really care if it is a "proper" email server. I don't care if email is held on dtman.com until requested, the way it is now. I just want email stored on the server, and not the clients.

Might this be as easy as creating a folder on the server, and setting Outlook to keep all mail there?

(Difficulty: can't say "use a real email client like X")
[Unless that's the only way to actually do it]

I did this once. I just dl'ed a SMTP server off downloads.com, and set it up with the account information for my isp account, and bam - done.

Exchange server can prolly do some advanced stuff.. and you can have shared outlook calendars, etc too.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I'm playing with CapeSoft Email Server right now. This might do the trick for you. It's $40, but pretty easy to setup/use so far.
