I have know a couple that needs a new monitor. The only requirment they have is that they want a flat screen. It will be used the surf the net and send emails and write papers in word. So it doesn't have to be anything special.
Is there anything they should make sure the monitor has or as long as it shows a picture they should be good to go?
Would a panaphonic or sorny be good enough?

Montior suggestions/help for newbies.
I HIGHLY recommend the Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP. If they can wait, it goes on sale down to the $300 range many times through the year. Might wait three months, then it will do it 4 times over the next two. But I'm lovin' mine. They might find a 17 inch cheaper (above is 19"). But as far as Dell monitors, make sure it's an Ultrasharp. I could tell a HUGE difference between the Ultrasharp and non. When the Dells go on sale, they normally include a 3 year warrenty as well. Beyond that, I've always thought Veiwsonic made good monitors. Only saw/dealt with the CRTs though. But, I've seen good reviews on the LCDs as well.
Go to cnet.com and search for reviews on monitors. Find the one with the highest reating that they can afford. Anandtech.com rates monitors all the time too.
