Use to buy/sell stuff on ebay quite a bit. Did pretty good with it in fact. Have continued to buy over the years, but just recently decided to sell something again.

Holy fucking SHIT have their rates gone up. On a $540 item, they are getting over $40 of it. Ya, ok, it serves me right for trying to buy an Xbox 360 and making money on it, but fuck me. After tax, fees, and other crap, we aren't clearing anything even CLOSE to making it worth our time. We should have checked the fee structure. But just had no idea they jacked them up to the level they have. How does anyone make money on Ebay?

With the fees they charge, I have to wonder if it would be all that hard to build a competing site. But then, I guess if someone tried, ebay would just lower their fees and kill them and then go back up.

Oh, and since ebay can bite me from now on, anyone know anyone who's in the market for a GeForce 6800 GT video card?

What're you asking for it?

It got bid up to $200 on ebay. But, screw ebay. I'll take $150 for it.

Here's the ebay listing so you can see it's details.

6800 GT

Oh, and the only lie in the ad is that it wasn't my wife's card, it was mine.

We'll see how badly Uncle Sam sodomizes me this year. I'm seeing my accountant this weekend & we'll be approximating how how I'll be paying, getting back, etc. If the numbers are right, DEFINITELY new board, more RAM, new vid card, new CPU, maybe new case. If I get good responses on my job inquiries, this only strengthens the case.

My friend bought a small sailboat for $200 a few years ago. It goes for 4x that, but it was donated to the city aquatics division and they couldn't get rid of it.

Now that we have kids we don't use the boat anymore so he's going to sell it to buy kegging equipment. eBay wanted something like $60 just to list it. I don't remember what their cut was should he actually sell it, but it surprised me.

He ended up just asking around locally and found a buyer for $500, so he still made a profit and has enough to buy a two-keg kegging system, with a tap for a refridgerator.

(They're 5 gallon "soda" kegs, Malcolm.)

And that's my point. Ebay takes WAY too much of your money. Not only in listing/sales fees, but they also own PayPal now. So they are double dipping and at a MUCH larger rate than they use to.

Catt, AGP is dead. And that's what kept my card's value so high! In Dec/Jan, the 6800 GT was selling at right around $300. I couldn't figure it out. Why were people paying so much!? Turned out, it was becuase the 6800 was the fastest/best AGP card out there. They weren't making any more. You could buy the 6600 or the 6200, but the 6800 GT was as good as it got. But then, those Nvidia bastards release the 7800 GS in AGP. KILLED the value of my card over night. So, what should have sold for 300 (before ebay raped me), now went for 200. And because I figure it won't be THAT hard to sell it for 150 outside of ebay, thus keeping them from screwing me over, I'm skipping the ebay thing. And, it's not always prudent to upgrade a motherboard, because then you might have to do the CPU and RAM as well, not to mention you still have to buy the better video card which was driving the whole project in the first place!! I bought my 6800 and put it in my aging 2100 XP system to revive it. It did a pretty good job as I was able to run Far Cry and SWG (at the time) MUCH better than it could pre 6800.

hehe I thought of that as well. As NO video card is going to save a T-Bird 1.2 or something like that.
