WinXP Replacement to require DRM monitors.

I've been using the same 22" monitor since 1998, and I have no plan to replace it until it stops working, not when Windows tells me I need a new one.

Specifically... as far as I can tell.... it will be content providers (movie, music companies) requiring certain DRM monitors.... but it's still Microsoft writing this "functionality' into the OS.

Seems to be that, for instance, if a AOL/TW movie studio decided it didn't like the SONY company, they could DRM their media up to not do well on a SONY monitor.

Or some such.

There will always be non-DRM media as long as there are smart people, I reckon. Even if owning it will send you to jail.

I expect this will go over as well as the serializing chips and providing that info to the OS. And look how well that did. It will either A. be dropped as an idea before release, B. be limited in its uses to begin with, or C. come out as planned and be scaled back or eliminated in a quickly released update.

I keep saying I'm going to go pure Linux before each version of Windows is released. Damnit, if software started being sold in Linux versions, I would, but as of yet, I'm stuck with buying Windows only software and with the restrictions of WINE and ANY style emulator, it's just not an option.

1. When Intel announced that P3 chips would be serialized, I vowed on here that I'd never buy one. I've been AMD ever since, and I'm actually happier for it. Cheaper and just as good.

2. Walmart was (is?) selling super-cheap "Lindows" systems. Like, sub-$200. Too bad too many peeps won't buy a Wal-Mart brand PC. Might make a good, cheap file server, though.................... hmmmmmmmmm........
