Slow computer

I'm just here to gripe.
I have a machine on the repair bench now that a customer brought in. It's been running a virus scan for... (checking) 1112 minutes now. It's checked 93543 files. It's deleted 8395 infected files, and keeps beeping every few seconds as it deletes another.... and another... and another.

I haven't heard of the "Padobot.Q" (aka Korgo) worm before.

The computer is incredibly slow. The big question is whether or not to quit AntiVir (since it's been running 18.5 hours!) and try the Norton Kogo fix program. I think I'll let AntiVir continue checking, since it'll find & remove other stuff if it's there.

Still, it's tempting to quit, run the Norton fix, and see if that speeds things up.

Sometimes it's best just to shoot it.

Reformat that sucker, it's dead.

Yeah, even if you clean it, there are still going to be huge registry and file issues. Wipe/reload.

I would have stopped at 1k infected files, and asked the owner what he wanted you to try and save off the HD before you reformatted it.

I let it sit on the bench all holiday weekend. It was still running this morning when I came in, after 6893:53 minutes. It had 73832 virus detections, and there are still more.

I turned it off, giving up. I'll try F-Prot or something that'll hopefully be quicker.

My "fix" was to hook the hard drive up to my PC and run Norton's. It's still slow, but not nearly as slow. 2479 more infections found so far,
