An electronic music guy that wears a huge mickey mouse head on stage and manages to not get sued by Disney.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/AYw-t4uDblM?hl=en_US& ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/AYw-t4uDblM?hl=en_US&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

My boggle is this: I like electronic music from time to time. It's fine. Some is good. But I have this deadmou5 concert on Netflix right now as background noise, and this guy has packed a stadium in Toronto. There might by 50k people in there. And the entire concert is the guy standing behind a bunch of.... sound boards, or something. You can't tell. And you sort of see him nod his head to the beat he is supposedly playing. And that is the concert. Two hours of what amounts to a dude playing his stereo while you watch him.

Are kids just really easy to please these days?

you know what makes the EDM show the crazy amazing show that it is? you guys do, the fans, the people who came to appreciate the music, the lights, all the other people who came, we just facilitate the means and the pretty lights and the draw of more awesome people like you by our studio productions. which is exactly what it is. But to stand up and say youre doing something special outside of a studio environment, when youre not, just plain fuckin annoys me.

So yeah, he's just playing his stereo and there are "pretty lights." I can respect him for being honest about it.

As to this, I don't think so. If the music weren't good he wouldn't have this crowd he does. I suspect a deadmau5 concert is mostly just an excuse to enjoy good music with your friends and 20,000 strangers while either high or rolling on X. But then isn't that what all concerts are for? No one cares it's not mixed live, as long as they are having a good time.

I guess so, if that's how you mean it.

As long as you aren't hinting that it's different than anyone high at any other concert being easy to please.

I'm getting a vibe that you are basically accusing him of the equivalent of lip syncing.

Deadmau5 festival tickets: $320
http://www.excite.com/events/ResultsTicket.php?evtid=2188659

This show was in the neighborhood of $50USD.

I go to a concert because I want a good show. I want to see musicians making music. This is a bedroom stereo listening party for 50k that you have to pay to get into. I am harder to please. These kids are easy to please.

The actual creation of the music takes plenty of talent and effort. The difference is that watching it being created would be a boring and uninteresting experience, mainly because for each second of final output there's dozens of minutes of work involved. No one would want to pay to watch his recording sessions.

Should he just not appear live at all? Even though his fans seem to want him to?

A concert isn't people making music. It's people performing music they made a while ago. Maybe they throw in a solo or something. Deadmaus is using electronic samples to take pre-recorded older music and mix it together.

You're just being old.

I don't think you're paying attention.... he isn't performing music, he is pushing "play" and bobbing his head.... to a packed arena.

It's something, but it aint art.

To answer TPR, OF COURSE he should sell tickets if people want to pay for that. Not saying he shouldn't. I am saying kids today are easy to please, because I require my musicians to perform, not just press play.

Now I have a Britney Spears concert on and I think she is lip syncing but at least she is dancing around dressed like a whore. That's, at least, worth looking at.

First and foremost ...

G is really, really old.

Secondly...
I don't think you're paying attention.... he isn't performing music, he is pushing "play" and bobbing his head.... to a packed arena.

I used to live with a semipro DJ. It is not just pushing play. Is he performing the music he's sampling? Nope. Is he adding something of his own to a spectacle centered around that music? Yep. That's still a performance of some kind, so it still counts as "art."

Thirdly...
You're forgetting how many of these people are on X.

Fourthly...
I am saying kids today are easy to please

I'm actually going opposite.

Do I need to recall every dumb-ass pop/rock song from the 1950 all the way through present day to support that theory?

But why I go opposite is this:

1) Show a kid from the '70s any modern "Call of Duty" FPS.
2) Show a kid from today a game of Pong.

I assume kids will be next to impossible to entertain in a few centuries.

First of all, fuck you.

Secondly, read what the guy himself said, the link is right in this thread. They are just pressing play on a prerecorded show, there is no room for improv at his show, because the lighting program has to match up.

I don't give a fuck what DJ Mom's Basement is doing. This isn't a thread about DJ Mom's Basement. This is about a show I was watching on Netflix.

Fuck all y'all.

I'm too lazy, actually disinterested, enough to look, but if Gordo is right about that, he wins this thread.

I get your logic, but I think you're wrong.

Someday a kid is going to leave his holodeck because it's outdated compared to the new games implanted within your brain and played out using imagination. OR he'll leave that deck and be amazed at a game of Pong being played on a nearby view screen.

True, he is just pressing play. That's not how it used to be, but with increasingly coordinated light shows, I can see that. But, in order to press play, he's done a ton of work in order to make the mix, synch the lightshow, etc. I guess it's like the music version of a movie.

People still go to watch laser light shows. Those are basically the same sort of thing, just with less X and more pot.
