Is the following statement, true or false:
"If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime."

I ask because of what the SC politician said:
"My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."

Article.

A ridiculously stupid and harshly worded thing for a politician to say, especially in this economic climate, but isn't he right? Shouldn't the goal of welfare, and other social programs, be to provide enough education and opportunities for a person and/or family so that they no longer need said social programs? If not, then how are we helping those people/families? By giving them enough to get by, but no opportunity to improve their lives?

Yeah, his statements are based in factual generalizations, but poorly worded.

The thing is, there is nothing in anything he said that has anything to do with race. It's all about class. "Poor" is not a race. It's everyone getting pissy about what he said that is bringing race into it, thus makign those people the racists.

But then actually making sense or understanding things is not a strong point for those sorts of people.

(by "those people" I mean Democrats).

But as for the June Republican primary, "don't count him out. The kid's got a fanatical following," Thigpen said. "They're going to forgive him almost anything and stick to him like glue."

Almost sounds like the fucking moron in the White House now.

I agree. REALLY poorly worded, but not right.

Never, EVER compare people that may or may not vote for you to animals. That was dumb.

A friend of mine and his brother do floating floors for me. His brother has to work 30 some hours a week before they will mail him his welfare check and food stamps. He is helping fix up houses. Don't know if it is for city or county but it sounds like a good plan to me. Didn't want to pry to to get more details but wondered why aren't they all having to work or go to school.
