Ok, let's call this our official DTMan multi game thread.

Who wants to be considered in our multi gaming list?

So far, I see:
Me
Gordo
Stranger
Malcolm

What games do we want to play?

Current suggestions:
The Ship
Magicka
Dungeon Defenders
Awesomenauts
Monaco
Torchlight II
Serious Sam 3
Planetary Annihilation
Payday
Payday 2
Total Annihilation
Supreme Commander
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
BL2

Do we need a TeamSpeak server? If so, who wants to get it, set it up, host, etc.? Who would be ok with chipping in to pay for it?

I will chip in. Also wouldn't mind setting it up and hosting if we needed that. Hell, I could hide it on an underutilized server at the office...

Misc Items

Catt pointed out elsewhere the Winter Steam Sale should begin tomorrow so might want to keep an eye out for these games.

Planetary Annihilation aint out yet.

BL2.... dunno. Been there done that, and some nights were just so slow.

Dungeon Defenders... played about an hour, solo. Just had the look and feel of a kid's game, to me. It looks like the "free" games my son sees on Nickelodeon and then he goes to play and after about 2 hours of gameplay it requires you to spend money to get through the next gate. I never planned on revisiting it.

Early Access SUCKA!

Plus, I know it exists, I want to multi it, so it's on the list for future consideration.

I don't have a ton of time for gaming, but certainly want to be on the list if that's acceptable.

Planet Annih is early access for $45. Was just in the Humble store for $40. Was VERY close to buying it, but, I didn't know we were quitting LoL and didn't want any distractions because I'm a dedicated teammate. I would buy that now.

Dungeon defenders isn't too bad. No extra money except for dlc add-ons. I played it for a while and then stopped because it felt like a multiplayer game and just seemed pointless continuing alone.

Civ5 should be on the list. I have multi'd that one time and it was fun. Just make sure to set a 2.5 minute turn limit.

TS server is a must. Steam works. . . but TS is better. I saw a 15 user server for around $70 for 3 years. So, a few $ from everyone and we are set for a really long time. Setting one up at your work would be fine too if you want that overhead. I guess you can have Mike do it. :-) But ya, TS is a must.

Civ 5: I just can't seem to get the hang of any of them past Civ 3. I have tried. I own 4 and 5. They just seem so stupid. I wish they would stop trying to reinvent the game.

Civ 5 might be the best Civ since Civ 2.

I'm somewhat intrigued. Multiplayer civ sounds like shit unless there's a timer involved, though. Otherwise, it's a more involved automated version of Axis and Allies.

From other thread derailment:
Payday
Payday 2
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
BL2

I could pick these up fairly quickly as they're just point and shoot. Any type of strategy game requires a learning curve. Haven't tried Payday yet and still have some BL2 to finish (maybe the second season of DLC, too).

I emphasize that thing about strategy games, be they RT or turn-based. My learning there tends to come in discrete bursts, with sometimes huge chasms of goddamnit in between.

It is a matter of paying for the server or software or both?

I'm in for Civ5 and Supreme Commander/Total annihilation, anything competitive I'll play.

While PA is on my list, I want to avoid it until it's gold.

And the rest of that is just so cute. I look forward to hearing you make quips like that for the next year.

Dungeon defenders isn't too bad. No extra money except for dlc add-ons. I played it for a while and then stopped because it felt like a multiplayer game and just seemed pointless continuing alone.

I had exactly the same experience.

Like Gordo, I'm not a Civ guy, but I'd be more than willing to give it a try. But hey, maybe while you guys are playing that, Gordo and I play something else? That's the beauty of "non-mandatory gaming".

It is a matter of paying for the server or software or both?

No clue. Cake was looking into it, so I'll defer to him. However, as he said, it's an absolute MUST for multi games.

You can host your own for 'free'. You provide the hardware and bandwidth. Software is free. Or, you buy a hosted server for pocket change per month. The more concurrent users you want, the more you pay. The longer term you buy up front, the lower the /month charge is. The server I was looking at was 15 users, 3 years, $75. $2.08/month. We could probably get away with 10 users, until TPR invited his friends, etc. I only mentioned TPR inviting friends because no one else has any. Well, I do. But I don't want them knowing I talk to you people.

And yes, my comments will go on all year. Because I'm a dedicated mother fucker.

You know, I probably can't get involved in anything, anyway. I don't really want to be up playing past midnight on days I have to be up at 7am, which is every night except Friday, and I get shit for it every single time.

Just hit my TS server links again. It's $72 for two years, not three.

The server we use now Typefrag, is the most expensive. They only have a 1 year option at $43.20 for 15 slots.
The other big TS server farm is resold by a few different companies. Or, there are multiple companies with servers in the exact same (10) cities around the world with the same capabilities, up time guarantees, etc. They are as low as $64.80 for two years. Mumble servers can be found for about $15 less per two years.

We know Typefrag and TS works really well. Have been using that for many months and I don't remember it ever being down when we were on it. No experience with the other ones. They all offer 30 day money back guarantees.

Monthly they are $4.50 (others) to $6.00 (Typefrag).

There are 3 and 6 month discounts if multiple people wanted to buy 'their' months all at the same time for a discount.

etc.

Ok people, chime in on TS. I'm willing to chip in, host, setup, whatever.

Also, keep an eye on the Steam thread during the sale. I'll shout out when I see games on the list for sale.

I have, and am ready to play anytime:

Dungeon Defenders
Magicka

Tons of others not mentioned:
Dawn of War 1 and 2
Red Alert 3
Worms Revolution (screw you for judging me)
Supreme Commander 2
SkyDrift
Alien Swarm (free game on Steam)
Everchron Mercenary (Plays like Eve except FPS [fly with joystick in first person like X-Wing an Tie Fighter]. You can mine, trade, fight, missions, etc. Large universe. There are persistent servers out there, but I've only played single player. This would be a sand box game to log into.)
Civ 5
CS:GO
TF2

That's all I can think of right now. Someone set us up the play date.
