TLDR: Entertaining, shockingly humorous, but cringe inducing.
A doctor and his daughter move to a small town after a personal tragedy. Daughter gets in with a group of teens who are somehow the most popular kids in school and the town outcasts. Incidentally, the coolest kid in this group is the son of the town's mayor, who happens to be Elon Musk (That's a callback to Abigail.) Also, the town's sheriff is Will Sasso. (I mention this because they're the two most famous people, although my daughter tells me the main girl is popular too.) Soon the town is to celebrate their Founder's Day. Meanwhile, there's a killer clown on the loose.
For the first half of the movie, I genuinely was rolling my eyes at how by the numbers and cringey the setup was, particularly the behavior of the teens. I wanted them all to die. Then the killing starts and they're not very creative, but the movie's pace really amps up here.
Three different times I laughed, not at the movie, but with it. That's a good thing. A few other chuckle moments too, but it's never scary. This was definitely made with comedy in mind, but the horror never hits. In fact, when the twist comes, without being explained, you already know the deal.
Mainly because this concept was done way, way better in a different movie. If you don't care about the plot being spoiled...
The lead girl is really competent and carries the film, plus she's easy on the eyes. Everyone else does a good enough job. So much so that I was entertained despite a less than impressive plot and kills.
