Thanos arrives on your planet, enacting his "half the population randomly, thank me later" campaign.
He doesn't have infinity stones yet. This slaughter will be done the old fashioned way.
You and your family get rounded up and taken to the public square. Two lines are formed. One line will live, one will die, with the toss of a coin.
Do you put your entire family in one line and wish for luck, or do you split them up so some are guaranteed to live?
How do you separate them?

You either all go into one line or you split up the parents and kids, maybe aligning the kids with the parent that best relates to them. One parent is going to die, but at least the surviving kid(s) don't lose both.
I'm sure there's some mathematical bullshit that tells me how to split my family of 5, but the question itself isn't interesting, imho.
What's interesting is thinking about how a man gets to such a place. What drives you to willingly line up your family for slaughter? Sure, super powers and all, but who gives a shit? Everything has a weakness. How does one reach a point where they stop fighting? Is it cowardice? Utter hopelessness?

You got there because Thanos showed up and put you in a line, at gunpoint. You have 5 seconds to choose... all or nothing, or win and lose.
Personally, I think I have to go with all or nothing. We live or die together.
