I think he can be funny. There are people who thought Jerry Lewis was hilarious. Some people thought Napoleon Dynamite was the height of comedy.
Mostly he needs to be accurate in what he's saying because his job is criticizing Hollywood. He isn't failing there despite not making you chortle.
