A couple decades ago I read a book called "Nature's End" about the last gasp (literally) of Earth's ecologies as plants tried to keep living as man polluted more and more. I remember the last step was when the Pacific could no longer filter air pollutants from China, and no more fresh air was entering N. America on the jet stream... just more smoke from Asia, adding to our own pollutants. One of the problems they had was food... they started making food that would taste good and fill bellies, but had zero nutritional content. A jingle has stuck in my head all these years, some sort of snack food, "... food value ZERO, fun value TOTAL!"
