You're a new Starfleet captain assigned with protecting the neutral zone bordering the Klingons. There's about to be peace with the Federation and Klingon Empire, so you just know somebody (Romulans, duh) will come in and fuck that up.

I really, really wanted to love this game, but I just don't see that happening.

The gameplay is essentially just micromanaging the VERY limited things you can actually control, while driving your starship in and out of range of the opposing ships' weapons. It is quite boring and quite repetitive.

Sure, there are dialogue trees and such, at times, but combat is the key to this game and it sucks. The ability to hail folks and talk them out of conflict is pretty cool. It just doesn't happen enough.

The graphics are very outdated, even for a DS game. Ditto for the sound.

I don't have much more to say about it, so I'll make my point about the combat here: I was getting my ass kicked multiple times in one particular fight (not too deep in the game). The problem is that I'm fighting multiple ships and they're all focusing on me. I KNOW there's a way to do it by micromanaging the hell out of all your systems and doing a bunch of hit and run shit, but that's not fun! Nor was it in any Trek show! The combat just isn't fun to learn and master. So I went out, got some cheats, and maxed out everything I could max out. I loaded that mission back up, and promptly got killed.

This could have been a fantastic game, but the combat really holds it back. I highly recommend it for masochists.

3 out of 10.
