Let's Multi Some Games!
Mostly I like the vehicles. Turns out I am pretty decent at flying in this game, although not so much as shooting while flying.
For some reason I find the fighter plane in this game much easier to fly upside down. *shrug*

So it seems that after the huge Steam sale and after all of these game recommendations that none of them have really caught on. I mean sure i've co-oped Torchlight, Supreme Commander, Guns of Icarus, Dungeon Defenders, Magicka, and prolly some others a few times but really have they made any of us excited to log on to play? Not me.
I have given every game a chance, i keep an open mind and hope that it will be the next game that we all love to play night in and night out. It just hasn't seemed to happen, infact i think its made most of us kinda bored with the game nights. I can only speak for myself here.
I know i was one of the biggest proponents to trying new games when this all started to take place. But i guess i was thinking that we would all find a really cool game we all liked and even bring a few new people into the mix. But it hasn't happened. I guess i'm just having a little bit of LOL remorse right now, but it is what it is.
RTS games are great, love em, but after a game or two i've had enough for a while. Games like Dungeon Defenders and Torchlight, Magicka are just a minor distraction to me. Hell, i bought DayZ and haven't even played it.
For me i like a good PvP teamwork based game. Kinda like LOL. I guess i'm kinda like Cake in that sense. I think thats really the only kinda game that will get us all on the same page again. So maybe we should be looking for games like that to play.
I know that i've mentioned Mechwarrior before. Its teambased, 12v12, you build/buy your own Mechs, and best of all its free. I know you guys pretty good and think you would like it. Just a suggestion, because i think we are looking for a game we all like and can be a team on.

WORLD CHAMPIONS!!
I get what you're saying. Allow me to try and throw some details at it.
It happens. Not every game is "the one".
Part of the problem is that a LOT of games have been recommended, yet only a very small handful have been played. Even fewer have been played by a majority of the folks talking about multiing.
In fact, I think the list is Guns of Icarus, Dungeon Defenders, and Supreme Commander.
I haven't been a part of any multiplayer session for Torchlight or Magika. Didn't even know they were being played. Only three of us have played Payday, and we seemed to have a blast doing so (Malcolm would be the fourth.).
You and Gordo seem to have the same goal: Find one new game and play it exclusively. When I started this whole thing is was about flexibility.
I don't want to sit down each night and be expected to be there at a certain time, and in a certain game. That's fine for a while, but not on a permanent basis. I want to see folks on, have a discussion about what to play, and play it. Maybe tonight is an RTS, tomorrow a FPS, maybe the day after that is movie night and you don't get on, and so on.
Granted, Dungeon Defenders, while fun, isn't exactly addictive game play, Guns of Icarus was fun, but difficult.
And honestly, your disinterest shows in the fact that you haven't been on at all lately. In fact, I don't think I've seen you online since you made a comment about missing LoL a week or two ago.
It's been one month, and we've played exactly how many of the games that were recommended? 5?
Totally agree here. LOTS of people talking about joining in, and nobody actually doing it. (Except Troy!)
Gauntlet thrown down.
I have LoL remorse too. I miss playing it nightly. And at the same time, I wish the game had never been made. Seriously.
This is part of the problem. There is no game that makes everyone perfectly happy.
LoL? We lose everyone else. You're still not a nightly player. Gordo and Cake are and bitch about nobody being on. I get dragged into playing a lot of nights when I'd rather not watch my nights disappear into 3 matches, and honestly would probably stop logging on just so I can avoid being sucked into another three year time sink. Not to mention the fun of dealing with fights among ourselves, trying to find a team, figuring out who plays when too many are on, being verbally attacked, ending a night pissed off, Hitlers, teens, etc.
I truly believe League of Legends is the best game ever made, and the worst.
Payday? - IMHO, the best new game we've tried and for some reason Gordo won't even give it a look.
AoE? - Destroyed by Cake, and his argument is valid. No point in going back in time. I guess this argument applies to SC and TA as well.
SC2? - The only game that seems to have a shot at getting a majority of the people on these forums into a game. However, some won't join us, and at least you find it boring. (Others might too?)
Dungeon Defenders? - We have 5 people who play, but somehow have only managed 4 in game at any one time. Honestly, not a game I'm dying to play nightly, and apparently, neither are you.
Guns of Icarus? - It's kinda, sorta fun, but not. I absolutely get what they're going for, but it's a bit slow, and some positions are more fun than others. I knew you were bored with it when you never showed up again after the second night you were piloting. Gordo was very vocal in his dislike for the game.
Planetary Annihilation? - Already a sore subject for some based on who owns it, who doesn't, etc. It's still in alpha. Would it be more fun than SC2? If so, I'm game.
L4D series? - It was free recently, and both versions are pretty cheap. The multiplay is a lot like Payday, except there's PvP as humans can play as the zombies.
Monaco? - I believe you and I are the only folks who got it.
The Ship? - Another one that's uber cheap, has PvP, and quick games. Seems like it would be fun despite the dated graphics.
Torchlight II? - I believe Cake has already beaten it. I would do it if we really wanted too, but not one I could play with Gordon. I'd actually want to hear the story, explore, make sure I'm not throwing away a much better item, etc. (Not bashing Gordo! Just pointing out our differences in tastes.)
Civilization? - I would stink on ice in this game, but fuck it. I'd play it if it got more of us playing.
Team Fortress 2? - It's free and has PvP.
Counter Strike?- PvP. Teamwork.
I wish Gordo liked sportsball because we could get a Madden, college football, NHL, FIFA, NBA, whatever league going.
Anyway, point being, we'll never find a game that everyone wants to play nightly. There's always going to be someone that doesn't want to play. However, I thought the point of this was to vary things up a bit. Play different types of games different nights, and NOT make our gaming "appointment gaming". That being said, I agree with Gordo that we can't switch things up every day or even every week. Pick some games, and let's go. Guns of Icarus didn't work out? How about trying The Ship? Most of us own Planetary Annihilation now... I'm game for trying Mechwarrior. Rust, Day Z, and whatever that third one is are very interesting and involve PvP and teamwork, but they're all in alpha. Etc.
On a final note, Gordo just told me my status has been in "Away" the last few nights, and it was assumed I wasn't there. For those who are unaware, Steam puts you in "Away" status if you don't move your mouse. If you see me online, I want to multi. I've said that previously. Or as someone else put it:

That's because apart from some high-level DL maps that will support 6 players, this is a game strictly limited to 4 max. We tried one night, and couldn't even get 5 into the tavern.Dungeon Defenders? - We have 5 people who play, but somehow have only managed 4 in game at any one time.
I'd be down for this one from time to time if there are eight for versus. I don't enjoy survivor all that much, but I'll play it if it means I get to play zombie. Additionally I know another group of gamers (the Oldtimers Clan) that y'all would probably get on very well with that play this almost every night at 8PM EST. So if y'all play not too long after that game is over I might have a pool of random folks to fill out the eight if more are needed.L4D series? - It was free recently, and both versions are pretty cheap. Eh, I'll always be a flake. This past month I replayed all of Dragon Age, went crazy for a bit in Minecraft (specifically Tekkit), had to rebuild my computer (147F is not a healthy constant CPU temp), and of course there was the Kerbal Space Program thing that is classified until all the widows have been notified.Gauntlet thrown down.
I figure once y'all have settled on the typical one to four or so games that will most likely be played, then I'll be a random joiner from time to time, if it's a game I like and if y'all will have me. But I'll probably never be a core player except for the possible occasional brief one or two month obsession that might come up.

Knowing what's being played, and everyone getting on and playing has ended with our game whoring. So many nights staring at away statuses and people in other games. If I'm on and waiting, and no one messages me, I assume they don't want to play. Otherwise, why aren't they sending any messages? And when I have messaged 'away' people, they don't respond. It seems that now that we don't have a set game, no one messages anyone because they don't want the hassle of picking a game. Telling someone they don't want to play what they want to play and/or end up playing a game they didn't want to play just so a game is being played.
You said you don't like playing games by appointment, but I think that's the best way to do it. Discuss here what's going to be played and then those that want to play, show up for it and log in. The "You didn't message me" thing is stupid because that goes both (many) ways.
I have taken to playing Oblivion until someone sends me a message, and no one ever does. So I'll say it again as well. If I'm on Steam, I want to play a game. Message me.
Lastly, our gaming has sucked lately because we don't play anything that matters. There's no draw because there's a complete lack of accomplishment. Yes, the games of SC2 have been fun. But at the same time, unrewarding. We aren't accomplishing anything. There's no trash talk here about games, no epic battle descriptions, etc. No sense of accomplishment. Fun game, but unrewarding. So, the draw that LoL had isn't there, because there's no reward. Not suggesting we don't play. I'm pointing out the reason we don't play that much. Well, all that plus no one messages anyone to get things started and Stranger is never on.
As far as AoE2 goes, ya, I was bitching about it, but I was looking for help/guidance as well. Even asked for a game save that I could watch for hints on how to play. Never really got help and no one else was playing it so it dropped off the list. Stranger was the one saying "If it's not the latest and greatest thing being improved and right now, then I don't want to play it. That's why we should all get PA.". I was playing AoE2, but was getting frustrated for all the reasons I listed.
PA. Right now, it would not be more fun than SC2. It would be a different kind of fun and just as much fun as SC2. It's alpha, so it's limited. One race. Lacks in units. Lacks in polish, etc. Would it be fun? Absolutely. Each game I play makes me enjoy it that much more. It's limited in all the ways listed above, but you also do stuff here that's totally new. Different planets, orbital combat, etc. I predict PA games taking forever to play. . . Perhaps the only way to end the game will be to systematically destroy all planets so that we are forced to be on one and duke it out. And this isn't a bad design thing. It's that we are going to want to build 'secret' bases, etc and will end up with battles in 6 different areas (planet A surface/orbit, planet B surface/orbit, asteroid belts, etc). So, ya, this game is going to be fun, but in a way totally different from other RTS. I do recommend playing it. But if we aren't all at the same skill level, the amount of fun we have will be limited by divergent skill levels. Just like in SC2.
I have not beaten TL2. I would play it as part of a group here. I like that game and see a ton of replayability with it.
I suck at Civ5 as well. Have played MAYBE 3 games to the end. But I enjoy playing the game.
I thought DD allowed 6 on some maps?

Having my normal pub visit tonight and Wednesday may or may not be bar trivia night. Aside from wanting to pick up the games on the cheap, I'm good to go in a day or two.

What I have currently installed is: Monaco, Payday, GoI, SC2, PA, and DD. I have no idea what to recommend on a nightly basis.
I still disagree with appointment gaming, and honestly, that's probably not the right phrase. What we used to do before LoL was appointment gaming. "Hey we're on, let's play the game that currently has our attention." LoL got to be like punching a time clock.
So appointment gaming is fine, and I think we achieve that when we log on each night. Expected to be on nightly to play the same game for three years is a bit beyond appointment gaming.
Anyway, since nobody is messaging me (correction, Stranger just got into voice...), I'm just sitting here going through the Steam store checking out tons of games. Also watched the Mechwarrior trailer.
FYI: 7 Days to Die seems to be VERY heavy on the crafting, and a quick shot of the server setup showed 15 players max...I believe.

I have no idea what to recommend
That's why. I was hunting for a game we could play.
Now I know what we'll be playing tonight: Mechwarrior!
Died and lost every game. Did about 150 damage on average, but it's fun. Matches are uber quick.

I tried Awesomenauts quickly when I got home yesterday, and it was surprisingly more fun than I would have guessed.
To sum it up, it's League of Legends in 2D.
Your team of four versus another team of four. Actually, now that I think about it, it might only be a team of three. Your goal is to knock down their towers, which you use minions to push towards, and then destroy their...sheet of glass? (That's what it looks like.)
Throughout the game, you can heal and shop at your base. Also, there are three levels (lanes) at different heights.
The shop sells you upgrades, health, and some special weapons.
I should also note that there are apparently pro leagues for this game. I think we could dominate and be world champs
Anyway, I've got two copies to give away, and TPR owns it as well. I won't hand them out now as Mechwarrior and Rust seem to be hitting their stride, but this is out there if we want to try something new one night.

The Ship is just the assassination game. Should be fun for a night or two here and there. It won't be an every night game. Worth buying at that price.
