Rest assured that Windows 7 will continue to be fully supported for a long time, with mainstream support continuing until January 13, 2015, and extended support continuing until January 14, 2020.

Bold? Yes. Stupid? Probably.
This is a great idea if they plan to use it to increase their install base even further and then leverage that base through going gung-ho on the PC gaming front and similar initiatives. But they won't do that. They're sacrificing their biggest cash cow for ... what? To sell a few more copies of Microsoft Office? If it were anything else we should already see them making a move to push into that market that this move would later bolster.
Someone somewhere had the seed of a good idea, and since then it wilted and died on the vine.

That'd be a bold move.
It could be extremely clever. It's not a bad start. It has to be executed correctly, though.

...............
I hope they have lots of millenials in charge of windows 10 that think having a "clean interface" with less functionality is what people want in windows (missing start button, android/chrome dropping the refresh button).
Let's hope they don't discover DOS.

Yeah, been reading around about it... looks like they are skipping 9 completely, making 10 their last official Windows release, and just providing "updates" on a pay-system.
