What, can I spoil a 25 year old book?
But seriously, that was a serious scene. I remember reading that scene in the book for the first time, and it was shocking. It was shocking to the characters in the book, and it was shocking to the reader. If you see it in the trailer, you will remember it, and about 70% through the movie that scene will pop up in your memory and you will think to yourself, "Oh, I know where this is going."
It's bullshit.

To be fair, I had no actual knowledge of the movie, I was just sharing a theory based on the trailer.

"Firewall" was about as fictiony as you can get with respect to its treatment of "science."

I did not enjoy Cowboys versus Aliens. Seemed to be a mess.

Unless he did something I'm unaware of in the sci-fi genre, that's it.

Yeah, I wonder how many scripts he turned down with:
"Ok, you're a space pilot of a... ANYTHING... and you are traveling the galaxy with your furry companion, maybe you'll save said galaxy and a princess or something"
I wouldn't define that particular bit as the *point* of the story. But to toss them out like that does hint at the potential for shoddy storytelling here. It's certainly a red flag.

I think they did a good job compressing what should have been a 17.5 hour movie into 114 minutes. At the end, silence in the theater, and nobody moving... digesting what we just saw.
I don't quite like ALL the choices they made, but I can see why they were made, and overall I liked it. Much was rushed, but like I said, you can't fit in all the internal dialogue and subtlety.
One pretty major mistake with one of the changes, though.... that kind of bugs me. See ya in the spoiler thread.

And, I would love to see opinion from someone who has never read the book. This is probably the book I've read most often in my life... 10ish times... so I saw the movie from the perspective of, basically, an expert on the story. I wonder if anything would seem off to someone new to the universe.

I have not read Ender's Game even though I own 2 copies.
You'll be waiting a bit for my review though.
