IP Watching Software
Do any of y'all have any experience with those programs that email/SMS you if a computer's WAN IP address changes? I tried to find a free one today and I went through 3 of them before I realized I may not be able to use a free one. 1 had a trojan in it and 2 of them couldn't get a test email to send.
So. Anyone?

So, you want an app that runs in the background that continuously runs some IP diagnostics. Then, if it changes, you want an e-mail?
Like install on the machine you want watched or install on a server that's watching some other machines?

It's not me, it's someone else.
I hit the router settings to set up the dynamic DNS stuff.
The available options for which service to update are coded in a dropdown box in the router settings page.
The only option available is dyndns.org, which no longer exists. I could not figure out how to make it accept the new service.

I have had this same experience with 3 other routers. The only option you get is for dyndns. It's like the router people aren't paying attention at all.GORDON wrote:I hit the router settings to set up the dynamic DNS stuff.

There must be a way to add another service...

Yeah, after years of being a free service and thus becoming the default for routers to interface with, now they charge. Good for them, but now my router is pissing me off for the same reasons; it only works with the recommended "free" option that is no longer free.
I bet their move to pay-only will lose them their spot as the only option in most routers.
