Yeah, carrying a 3TB drive around is a pain in the ass. This is just set it and forget it.

I'll look into this more after vacation. There will be SOME sort of automated backup happening, somewhere.

I'm going to set up my mother's bar server to backup to my server with Crashplan.

I am currently away from my workstation so can't poke around with it myself.... but I assume I need to assign her a folder where her shit will be stored, and then generate a hash code or something for her?

ANd I assume I will need to open a port on the router?

Yes. You need a folder for her to backup to.

The ports are handled automatically with upnp

Still available, still got 10+ TB free, I believe.

Should have a faster pipe by the end of year as well.

I don't yet know the size of her POS data file folders, I may back up to both yours and my servers if it is small. I don't want it still running when the place opens in the morning.

And I also told her 2 weeks ago to consider getting a $400 Thinkserver for backups, and she didn't really want to talk about it. Now we're doing disaster recovery.

You can control the hours during which the backups run.

On my server install I couldn't find a setting for "Put incoming backups *here*." Does it just happen magically or am I not finding the setting?

Settings | General Tab | Configure Button (Inbound backup from other computers) | Default backup archive location

With Crashplan, if the machine doing the backing up is turned off overnight and it misses its 3am scheduled time, does it just launch when the computer is turned back on? My server is always on and I never had a chance to observe that situation.
