There is a new program where if one signs up for Amazon Prime, you now get access to amazon's entire library of streaming video movies and TV shows. It is available to stream on the PC, lots of networked BD players, and the XBox 360.

Not the PS3.

I took a guess at his email, and wrote:

I'd sign up for it right now if the streaming were available on the Sony PS3.

Just FYI.

Just got a response:

Dear Steve,

I'm Allissa Bratager of Amazon.com's Executive Customer Relations team. Jeff Bezos received your e-mail and asked me to respond on his behalf.

I understand you'd like to stream Amazon Instant Video through your Sony PS3, and I appreciate you letting us know.

Strong customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve the service we provide, and I've shared your comments with the Prime Instant Video team for their consideration.

Thanks for your interest in Prime Instant Video!

Regards,

Allissa Bratager

Turns out a lot of companies have that type of thing. I wrote to uh, whats-his-name Dell a while ago about a lot of issues I was having with a laptop, when customer service had failed me, and got a member of their "executive response team" who called, and got me an instant new laptop, etc.

So you're saying, if I want free stuff, I just email ceo.name@bigcompany.com? This must be one of those paradoxes, like how hot girls are lonely because everybody thinks their out of their league, so if you just have the balls to talk to them, you'll get laid.

Maybe write two letters and see if he does it faster next time.

We bought prime this year for the first time, for the 2-day shipping (we used to get it free from various programs, but they all ran out). And I just bought my wife a Kindle Fire so I think we'll start looking at the lending library/video stuff.

How does this compare to Netflix?

Poorly. But it's a lot cheaper, and includes free 2 day shipping for all Amazon purchases.

I signed up for Prime mainly for the streaming, but because I make at least 1 amazon purchase per month and would also get some value out of the faster, free shipping.

So I have been chugging along with Prime, and one day decided to pre-order The Hunger Games on blu ray, about a month before it was released.

In the past I knew amazon had shipped popular pre-ordered stuff a couple days before the release so it actually arrived in your mailbox on release day, so I was kind of hoping they would do that. I was disappointed the afternoon of release day when it wasn't at the post office waiting for me.

Then I got home, and had an email from amazon... I had a HD digital copy of the movie I could watch immediately on their streaming service.

Very acceptable substitute for release-day delivery.

Wonder how many e-mails a day Jeff gets saying, "How the fuck did you patent one-click buying?"

The Hunger Games? Were you on your period when you ordered that?

Have you even seen Battle Royale?

Yes, not as far as I know, and no.

The wife liked it, I thought it was ok, so I preordered it on a whim. I usually don't.

I made both those points, goddamn near verbatim, about a week ago to a buddy of mine after his wife bought both the flick and book.

Battle Royale is significantly more bad-ass. Granted, I know nothing about The Famine Games or what-the-fuck-ever it is, but there's no way it's better or even on par with the former.

Hunger Games was pretty good, didn't love it, but enjoyed it. Will check out Battle royale.

It has less prologue and angst, more violence and bloodshed.
