You're Cole. You just survived a massive blast that tore your office apart and sent your city into chaos and quarantine. On top of that, you somehow now have super powers, specifically electric based abilities. Soon you learn that people blame you for the explosion and the state of the city. Time to set the record straight...or not.
inFamous is so named because you can play through as a good guy or a bad guy. The overall story is the same, of course, but minor details and the ending change based on your choices.
The story is decent, although a bit hazy at first. There's probably one of two weak moments, but overall it's strong enough for this game.
Gameplay has you running around climbing buildings like an assassin in Assassin's Creed and performing various tasks while trying to solve your own little mystery. The powers are all pretty cool, and the controls are passable, but quite frustrating in some parts (mainly due to the overly aggressive "help" you get from the program with landing in the right spots).
Lots of missions and side missions, and while there are some repeats, most are varied enough to keep things interesting. The first island of the city, and first part of the game, is all about learning the controls. It's a bit slow on story, but the baddies are perfectly easy, yet still challenging for noobs. Things, imho, are the best on the second island. By far, this is the most challenging group of enemies, and they have the best heavy hitter. The third island is the end game, and I think the developers were bored at this point. I found these enemies to be uninspired and not even remotely as tough as island two.
Anyway, this is a decent game that a veteran gamer could knock out in a week or so. So as a rental I'd give it high marks. As a purchase, anything under $15 would be fair. There's not as much gameplay here as an LA Noire or GTA, but there's enough to make you feel like you got your money's worth.
A solid game worthy of a play through. 7 out of 10.
