In conjunction with this week's Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple has updated its App Store Review Guidelines, and part of the new approval process includes a section that prohibits the inclusion of DUI checkpoints in iOS apps.

Section 22.8 states:

Apps which contain DUI checkpoints that are not published by law enforcement agencies, or encourage and enable drunk driving, will be rejected.

The updated terms come a few months after a group of U.S. Senators sent letters of concern to Apple, Google and RIM, asking the smartphone companies to remove any and all apps that would inform users of DUI checkpoints.

Personally, don't see why anyone needs DUI checkpoint apps, but fuck, Apple - It's not your job to police this stuff.

And one cannot write their own DUI checkpoint app to use on their own Apple phone, correct?

Correct, unless phone is jailbroken.

I don't know why anyone would want a device like that when there are alternatives available.

I feel the same way about sobriety.

For me the it's that the booze aint free, and I don't want to be any more unhealthy than I already am.

A buzz now and then is fine for me.

But let's not derail.

Apple sucks.

Actions like this only encourage breaking the rules. Not that hard to crack the phone.

The other day I had a double-shot of vodka with Sprite in a water bottle as I drove down a backroads highway and DAMN it was awesome.

Probably cuz of just how rarely I drink.

*edit* Apple still sucks.

I've really been enjoying the occasional triple Bacardi and Pepsi Throwback. The real sugar makes it a delightful drink.

And on topic, only morons love Apple.

Some carriers (AT&T) lock Android phones down too. Won't let you install apps from third parties (like amazon). You can only load apps from the market. You also can not install an app you write yourself.

However, AT&T is slowly lifting that restriction, and, it's easier to get your app on the market, than it is on itunes.

I'm also under the impression that 'rooting' your Android is not 'illegal', it only voids your warranty. AND, they don't brick your phone if they find you did root it. They just un-root it with automatic updates.

Point is, Apple's not the only ones locking down devices so users can't hurt themselves.
