May 20th is "Draw Muhammad" day, apparently.
Shakir Husain of Creative Chaos, an internet company based in Karachi, said the ban was unlikely to succeed because it could be easily circumvented through the use of proxy servers.

"By banning this web page, it will just make people more curious. It's pouring petrol on a small fire that could become a lot bigger," he said. "You can't police the internet. The Saudis have tried it, as have other governments, and all have failed. It's a waste of state money."

We need a CIA-led coup to put this dude in power. That's the sanest thing I've heard anyone from that country say in a long time.

I'm constantly amazed at how stupid world leaders are. Time and time again they try to block something they don't like, and time and time again it just makes their problems that much worse.

Blocking access to online media is like poking a bear with a stick. All it does is annoy the bear and - if you keep at it - get you killed.

Yes, although for what we are currently talking about only about the last 10 actually count.

EDIT: Actually, on further reflection, it's really only the last five that count on this point. Things have been changing fast, after all.

Now they've blocked YouTube.

Apparently, tolerance = oppression.

This gives me the mental image of a bunch of petty tyrants doing their best to make sure everyone in their kingdoms only have the correct thoughts.

That worked pretty well for a really long time until modern mass communication became prevalent.

If hell's still run by Lucifer, I'll be able to pull some strings. We've been buddies for a bit.

Yeah, I guess I've known you long enough to give you access to my private bar.
