As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Wife picked this movie up a while ago. Had John Balushi, Dan Akroyd, and many other familiar faces and names. It had Slim Pickens, even. It was also stupid cheap. Like, a dollar or something. And any movie with John and Dan in it HAS to be worth at least a dollar. OH, and it was directed by Spielburg back in 1979.

So, that's why I watched it. John had me cracking up. Dan's been better. It was billed as being really funny. But that's DEFINATELY by 1979 standards. The ONLY time I laughed was when JB was doing his thing. Over all, it wasn't thaaaaaaaaaat bad. But, don't go out of your way to see it. It's somewhere at the bottom of the list of tollerable. I didn't HATE this movie. But you wouldn't be missing much if you never watched it.

*** Somewhat of a minor spoiler follows (as if anyone's gonna watch this movie any way ***

The biggest problem I had with it was that there was a Jap sub off the coast of California being crewed by a bunch of ignorant Japs that couldn't read a compus or keep their equipment functioning. This crew ended up making the residents of LA look like complete idiots who ended up detroying most of the city themselves. So, I don't know if it was an anti America thing, or anti California/LA thing. But, I didn't like the incompetent Japs getting the best of the Americans (even if they were from California). I guess that's a bit of a spoiler. But trust me, it won't affect your viewing pleasure.

There are rumors that German subs during WW2 used to dock at ports here in NC so the crews could hit the bars for the evening.

Best line of the movie:

The Japanese sailors are trying to shove Slim's giant radio into the sub, and one of them says, "We've got to figure out a way to make these things smaller."

Hyuck hyuck.

I saw a show on the History channel about Nazi submarines docking on the East coast. If I remember, most of the Nazi's defected.

I remember a reenactment they did. A half dozen Nazi's landed and burried their weapons at night. A local showed up and they talked to him and convinced him to go away (without killing him). One Nazi left a shoved in the ground above the weapons cache so authorities could find it easier.
I think all but two or three of the 6-8 people who landed turned themselves in and started working for the U.S.
If I recall though, I don't think we treated all of them too nicely. I think we killed some as spys even though they cooperated.
