Large Blood Tests

You probably can't do it, so don't even try.

Large Blood Tests

Post by TheCatt »

So Function, Everlywell, and others have been all over my facebook offering to run like a billion blood tests for a set fee ($499, often with coupons to get to $399 or lower).

So I signed up for one. First draw was today, 11 vials. Next draw in a week. We'll see if there's anything useful.

What are they testing for?

That's kind of cool. Insurance cover it.

Looking forward to seeing if you think it's worth it.

Me too :)

I have a feeling it's going to mostly be noise, and they'll try to sell me more tests, or supplements or some crap. But if it finds something everything else missed, worth it.

First round of tests was Friday, and everything is perfect. My HDL is 40, LDL 66, pancreas/liver/sex hormones/etc, all perfect.

2nd round is this Friday.

It'd be the best joke ever if I could access those records somehow and add a line that says, "100% GAY". :D

First bad results came in. My cholesterol is low (yay), but the cholesterol I have is bad. LDL id 66, but the particles are the bad kind that cause heart disease (LDL-P number). That's been true for years though. It went down when I started a statin, but is still higher than it should be.

2nd blood draw today, and I got to pee in a cup, too! All results are supposed to be ready in about 4 weeks.

I mean, if you're peeing blood, I don't think you need a test to know you're not in good shape!

So, most, but not all results are in. 3 more blood tests that were abnormal, but they were all related (red blood cells), and all mean that I was probably dehydrated a bit last week. They've never been off before.

The app computes a "biological age" based on test results, and mine says 43.3 years old (versus the 51.3 years old that I am).

So... probably not worth shelling out $399, but nice to know that I'm pretty healthy.

That does come with a sense of relief, but never forget that there's a bus out there with your name on it. :D
