Yesterday I was curious about the prices of used electric cars in my area, so I googled and did some browsing.
Just now, facebook showed me an ad for used electric vehicles.

Yeah, that shit's been normal for a while now.
My FB feed is filled with monitor ads right now.

Louis Vuitton store has awesome facade during 2 year renovation project.
Whoever decided to do that needs a raise.

That genuinely looks amazing.
Speaking of ads, have you seen X-Box is now planning a tier of game pass that is cheaper, but will have ads? A horrible idea for so many reasons, chief among them is that the people on this tier probably don't have a lot of disposable income...
But it got me to thinking about ads overall, and I don't think companies truly understand how ineffective their ads really are or they'd stop spending so much. This isn't opinion. Ok, some is, but I worked in media alongside the people who sold ads and they had the numbers proving that ads really aren't effective.
Think about it. We've all been up for a few hours now and have been bombarded with ads. Using my morning as an example: I scrolled a couple of videos on FB reels this morning (Epic RPG Man, Ryan George, and a Karen video), I listened to a podcast while showering, I drove for 20 minutes, I've walked all around my building, and I've gotten online hitting multiple websites while eating breakfast including Pandora playing in the background.
I cannot think of a single ad this morning that I've been exposed to, seen, or heard, yet I know they've been there.
Advertising can work, of course, but 95% of it is completely ineffective and a waste of money and resources.

I hate ads. I hate all ads, well, most ads. And they are such a pittance of revenue. 1000 people are exposed to an ad, here's $10. A penny an ad.
It's not me, it's someone else.

Depends on the medium. But even a pittance ads up massively. An estimated $466B+ in the U.S. this year alone.
Not to mention, the people paying for this advertising are the same ones telling us that our straws are killing the planet. Somehow their tchotchke, printed adverts, and so on are just fine.
I look around at the landscape of ads everywhere, and it's pretty obvious that most marketing people don't know what the fuck they're doing. The marketing isn't effective, the ads are not entertaining or attention grabbing, and it's all a big waste of money. It's just pollution and clutter. We've all become blind to it. We don't even notice most of the ads we see.
I just think it's an industry that needs to re-evaluate their methods.
