I have it as a backup service here at our new HQ. I'm in the process of installing it at both of our plants, and will do it at our future third plant as well. It's a better option than "other direction fiber" or cellular as a backup. If fiber gets cut, it is VERY rare that a site has fiber leaving in different directions. So, that cut fiber means your site is down. If a local event (like a tornado) is why your area comms are down, it's likely cell towers are down too. Starlink is space based, so as long as your site has power, you're golden. We have natural gas generators, so theoretically, our sites can sit in a total blackout area and operate as normal for as long as needed.
The recommendation for it came from our telecom sales rep, and I'm glad I went this route. It just makes sense from a DR standpoint, and it's WAY cheaper than normal service at our SC site. $3K+ vs $1.1K and that 1.1 is for two sites... Plus, it's much faster than that shitty local provider. They've gotten us up to 100M, but Starlink is still faster.
When the construction crew was here several of them had Starlink. Lot of hunters/campers in the group, and they said nothing else was even close to it on their trips. Makes sense. Point it north, plug it in, and voila. It's that simple.
If Elon actually came out with a Starlink phone that was the size of a regular phone, he'd take a very large bite out of Verizon and AT&T and their bullshit coverage maps.
