Got this as part of a bundle of Critical Reflex games. They all have high reviews on Steam, including this one.
Now listen, what you're about to read I'm not making up. This is legit the game.
The story was...I don't really know. The dialogue is mostly nonsense. You're a poultry cook in some post-apocalyptic future or maybe just the future. You carry a frying pan and you walk around cooking people's orders on the spot. Orders include eggs, bacon, bullets, lit cigarettes (they act as timers), living roaches, full bottles of beer, and other assorted things.
The object is to cook the things that can be cooked on both sides to completion without losing anything. The whole game is all about your mouse skills. Here's the thing, it's genuinely fun. No joke. There's something about the simplicity of the game and turning your mouse into a display of skill that really works. There was one order that even forced a little "outside the box" thinking involving said mouse.
It's way too short to overstay its welcome as Steam says I played it for 2.5 hours, and some of that was the game sitting on pause. There is a sandbox mode you can play around with, but I didn't bother. I had fun and walked before it got annoying.
Every object adds a different wrinkle you'll need to account for as you make the order. For example, the roaches are alive and want to escape from the hot pan. Who knew I was able to cook an egg on both sides without spilling a drop from the beer bottle also in the pan?
FYI, I think I cooked eggs for 32 people? Maybe 34? It was all available. Only 27 are required to get to the end where you cook for a set quantity more, you'll know the number almost the minute you start playing (it's less than 10). The finale is also just eggs, so don't worry about some weird combos being thrown at you like bullets and roaches. Doesn't happen. The roaches are the second toughest ingredient. There's one that's tougher due to size. It just becomes a skill shot.
I know, I know. Nothing about this sounds appealing, but I swear to you that if you bought this for $1 and wanted to be distracted for 2 hours or have a game to play while you watched a movie, this is a good choice.
Currently listed at $10 it is WAY overpriced. Accept it as part of a bundle or for $1, maybe 2-3 if you're feeling generous. Critical Reflex is an indie studio making some pretty unique and well reviewed games. So, fight the man by supporting them.
Once you beat the game, return here and go into the Spoiler. I simply googled the most asked question in the game.
