Russia: "This is bullshit! Syria didn't use chemical weapons and when the inspectors get that, you'll see!"
Weapons inspectors" "We're here, let us in!"
Syria: ""Uh...we can't let you in due to...security issues! Yeah, that's the ticket."

If you missed it, Damascus fell over the weekend. Assad is either dead or in Russia hiding.
New leader has a negative message for Iran and seems to be extending peace branches to the West and all religions.

You people will do everything you can to avoid giving Trump the credit he deserves!

I was telling someone yesterday that I didn't yet know if it was a good or bad thing that rebels toppled the government. I have no info about any of it.

Syria was an Iranian/Russian ally, so that's promising, but I have no idea who the rebels are.

Having been riding this one with interest.
The rebels hated Russia when they backed up Assad. They are Sunni Muslims. So are Al Qaeda. This group is well organized with good PR, they are heavily backed, funded, and trained, by Turkey - who is theoretically but not actually lockstep with NATO in the middle east.
The rebel leader, Jolani, and his movement won via a transformation that saw Jolani going from looking like Bin Laden to dressing like Ukraine's Zelensky - more western in greens and no head wrap. Modern weapons and brand new looking equipment and armor - Turkish armor. Battlefield drone mastery from somewhere.
They say they are open to Israel investment, welcoming all Syrians to come home, domestically are pulling off a peaceful transitions of power faster than Geneva can write it up, and politically aren't going as hard at the Russians who are left as one might expect considering the thermobaric weapons used on the current battlefields were hot tested on their civilians by RU air.
Not sure what to think myself. Are they real? Or just acting to get as many people under their rule as they can before they clench the fist? The Taliban said the same thing when they most recently took power and then relentlessly stripped women's rights away.
The powers that be in Israel don't believe, they bombed every known regime weapon cache they could pinpoint and seized a bunch of border regions in the last 24 hours - significant military moves - in response to Jolani's "hey we want Israel to be friends and invest."
USA has sent strategic aircraft from the midwest to bomb ISIS targets in eastern Syria in the last 24 hours, our hands are on this as well. It seems likely the Syrian regime and/or Russia was sheltering ISIS.
As to Russia. A huge strategic loss. Syria was their midflight stopover point for their Africa resource extraction ring, run by Wagner. And they are losing the warm water ports in the eastern Mediterranean. It's a disaster. Their are still pockets of RU solders trapped in Syria, and the common Syrian does not share the sentiment of Jolani - if they are caught it's bad news. My hope is that it will lead to a quick ceasefire early next year in Ukraine.
