Getting shredded by critics and gamers.
This is interesting for three reasons:
1. This was a cash cow that a corporation completely mishandled and turned into a loser.
2. The original games are a perfect showcase for what happens when you let "take it as far as you can go!" be your design philosophy for your cash cow. You rapidly run out of ideas and good games.
3. Throughout development they were being told by fans that the game looked terrible and the ideas they were implementing were not appealing. The developer clearly ignored that, while their social media people openly mocked the criticism.
