Lucky # Slevin

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Josh Harnett (sp?) is a down on his luck loser that gets mistaken for a friend and is pulled into a war between two mob bosses played by Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley. In the middle of all this is a world class assassin played by Bruce Willis.

This film is best defined as a "dramedy." There's some humor, but there is a serious undertone to the whole story.

I thought the film was pretty decent and stylish. Not a fantastic effort by any means, but worth renting and possibly even a purchase as it's something I could sit through again.

This role was perfect for Josh Harnett as he's always portrayed as an easy going, smart ass who is polite and means well. Ditto here, however he's allowed to grow from that and bring more to the table and I think he pulls it off really well. Especially towards the end of the film.

Morgan Freeman, the best actor on the planet, is Morgan Freeman. It's fun to see him here as the bad guy, and I think you can tell he had fun with it too.

Ben Kingsley is the disappointment, not from an acting standpoint, but because there's just something about his character that sucks. I can't place my finger on it, but if I had to guess I think it's because his "support players" are all so sterotypical and ridiculous. Ben does a great job, but he's not really given the proper respect in the script.

Bruce is pretty awesome in this role as a hitman. There's no smart ass comments...well, maybe one...but he also doesn't play it too serious. His character is more the strong silent type.

I almost forgot that Lucy Lu is in the film as well and does a good job of acting, however her character is more the "we need a love interest" type of role, so it's not exactly essential.

The story is good and very well paced. It has a really good flow and while some might predict the ending, it's not too obvious that it spoils your enjoyment.

Overall, this is one to put on your check out list. The style is very much like a Tarantino film, but not as over the top. You might not enjoy it as much as I did, but you definitely won't be mad about seeing it.

8 out of 10.

I've heard not particularly kind things about this flick. Something to the effect of, "It's only about half as clever as it thinks."
Diogenes of Sinope: "It is not that I am mad, it is only that my head is different from yours."
Arnold Judas Rimmer, BSC, SSC: "Better dead than smeg."

It's no "The Usual Suspects", but it's honestly not bad.
