Michael Douglas stars as a Secret Service agent who gets framed in a plot to assassinate the president. Kiefer Sutherland also stars as his former best friend who is hunting him down.
While I'm sure there are real Secret Service agents who would tell you that this movie is total bullshit, particularly when you see who Michael Douglas is sleeping with, but for the entertainment factor, it wasn't horrible.
The storyline works to move the story along, but isn't anything spectacular. This is more about the characters than the plot.
Michael Douglas might be the most underrated guy in Hollywood. The guy just makes entertaining films. He's been in very few bombs or movies that would be considered crap. I mean, the guy has done: The China Syndrome, The Star Chamber, Romancing the Stone, The Jewel of the Nile, Fatal Attraction, Wall Street, Black Rain, The War of the Roses, Basic Instinct, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Game (vastly unappreciated film), Falling Down, Traffic, etc.
Anyway, he puts in another good performance here and is believeable as an older secret service agent that's on the run.
One problem I had was that the hunt didn't seem to last long enough, but thinking back, it made sense. Due to the nature of his framing, it wouldn't take much to figure out that something else was going on and make his pursuers have a change of heart.
It's worth the rental.
7 out of 10.
