Tears of the Sun

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

"God left Africa a long time ago."

But He sent Bruce Willis to play the part of Avenging Angel, for a while.

Bruce plays "The Lieutenant," a commander of a Seal Team. Off one mission in Nigeria and directly into another, without rest, the team has to evac an American doctor and a few nuns before rebel geurillas take them out. Along the way Bruce can no longer ignore the atrocities around him in the name of Mission Accomplishment, and he finds his humanity.

This is not a happy film, and I was even less happy when I saw the line on the screen at the end that had been in my mind the entire movie... "The only thing needed for the triumph of evil is for the good to do nothing." Or, like many who would consider themselves "good," claim the evil doesn't exist at all. "It's all about oil." You know the types.

It isn't Rambo. It isn't Black Hawk Down. It isn't Die Hard in the Jungle. John Wayne doesn't Green Beret in just in the nick of time to save the orphans. I found a few things slightly wrong militarily (but then anything's possible), but that shouldn't stop you from seeing the film.
