A spell requires 100gp of iron which it consumes when cast. Where would I get that and how much would it weigh?

Also, I owe some 'copy checks'.

A Wizard spell on a spell scroll can be copied just as Spells in spellbooks can be copied. When a spell is copied from a spell scroll, the copier must succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to 10 + the spell’s level. If the check succeeds, the spell is successfully copied. Whether the check succeeds or fails, the spell scroll is destroyed

I have not cast any spells I've copied from scrolls yet, so no harm.

Waterdeep prices so 1 g/10 sp

Like half a ton of iron at Barovia prices. Are you summoning a golem or something?

You could buy it at the Stockyard, Gypsies, maybe Bildrath's?

Does it USE UP the iron , or is it like a wand , a thing you use over and over.

I question the feasibility of a wizard taking a ton and a half of iron with him when he starts a 3 day dungeon crawl.

The spell says:
Holy water or powdered silver and iron worth at least 100 gp, which the spell consumes

Now that I'm reading it, I see it can be:
Holy water
or
powdered silver and iron worth 100gp.

So the silver would be the 100gp. Last night I read it as:

Holy water or powdered silver
and
iron worth 100gp.

But I DO like the idea of summoning an iron golem.

Is this for a golem.spell? Because, again, that isn't practical for a random spell to require 100gp of iron.

Or, like, a piece of art like a.statue of a wizard that weighs three pounds but you purchased for 100gp? Then it's 100gp of.iron.

There are spells that require you to use a diamond worth at least 100gp, or a pearl worth at least xGP, etc.

I think for this spell, I need either holy water, or a powder that is made of silver and iron and is worth 100gp. Part of the cost could be labor/effort in turning two metals into a powder as well. It's shit you would buy at a magic shop, not a scrap yard.

Message board answers imply you can go to a smith and have them grind up the silver/iron mix as well. Again, there's labor in the cost as well. So I'm guessing I'd need to buy holy water or I can visit that dude the plates weapons in silver and get hooked up. But pretty much everyone says it's holy water or (silver and iron) powder.

And no. Not a golem spell.

The laptop I normally run D&D on is down due to an IT screw up when adding a new hd. Hopefully it will be ready in time tomorrow for the session. I did most of the heavy prep last week though - tomorrow will probably be largely reactive and seat of the pants type stuff.
