The good Italian places are in the old north end.

Get pics of the historical stuff. Carve dtman.com in something really old.

Best presentation was "Ten Failures as a Software Architect." Basically a bunch of war stories. My favorite: "The Onion of Confusion."

The presenter's company got a call from a customer. The product basically was an ASP.NET app that dropped a file off on another system.

Customer: "We're not really getting the performance out of this thing that you guys promised. We've only got 5 users on the system."
Presenter: "Uh..ok, well, we'll check the ASP.NET logs. Hmmm. Nothing there, so we'll check the system logs. Ok, this is on Windows 2003. Can you give us remote desktop access?"

C: "I don't know. Can you do that when it's running under VMWare?"
P: "Excuse me?"

C: "Yeah, it's running on VMWare. Did we mention we're a Linux shop?"
P: "Uh huh. Well....I guess we could telnet to the box or something..."

C: "Oh, I've got a better idea. We'll just mail it to you!"
P: "Come again?"

C: "It's a laptop. We'll just mail it to you and you can debug it."
P: "..."

P: "While we've got you on the phone, you know that other system that the file gets dropped off on? What is that?"
C: "Oh, that's an AS 400."
P: "Ok then."
