What's crazy is that if I swim 1.6 miles in an hour, I'm not breathing hard at all and could probably do another hour at that pace.
If I swim 1.75 miles in an hour, a difference of about 6 laps, I can barely breath and am about to drown.

Got in the pool today for the first time in a month and a half.
Ugh.
Did 30 minutes, nice and easy. I'm not going back to the full hour swims... I'm thinking 45 minutes, and higher intensity. I have some hiking planned this summer and need my cardiovascular in good shape.

Here's an observation:
I've been saying for a while, "Boy it sucks being old, my muscles are strong but my joints and shit are all achey."
So my last day of swimming was the end of November when I hit my 100 mile goal. Been swimming a few miles a week all year, more or less. Working out on off days. Noticing the joints hurt. But I stopped at the end of November because I hit my goal and I was burned out on swimming. Needed a break. But I kept hitting the gym 3 days a week, strength training.
And I noticed I was feeling better. I was progressing to heavier weight again, and without any pain or discomfort. I was actually wondering if I was getting younger.
Then I swam yesterday for the first time since November. A casual 30 minutes, a little less than a mile. Then today I hit the gym for the first time since the kid's Christmas break, a few weeks ago, light workout. Sore joints. Achy.
I think swimming is bad for me.

I think Leisher was right, you are turning into Malcolm.

This guy never came back. I broke him.GORDON wrote: Had some new dude try to race me today, I was just doing my medium-hard "can sustain this for an hour" pace. He started sprinting against me, and I had to kick it up to my max "I can probably sustain this for the next 15 minutes" pace, and I was surprised when he kept up for four full laps, right next to me. He was doing regular turns where he gets to stop and take a couple good breaths while I was doing flip-turns where I have to HOLD my breath, but still.... that was the best anyone over 25 has done against me in a long time.
He looked about 28. Shaved head and big red hipster beard. I dunno.

Trying to use the warranty right now. One side of the ear bud isn't working.GORDON wrote: Just bought another identical one, because it is still one of the less expensive ones out there.... but this time i also bought the 3 year warranty. I guarantee I am going to use it.
Have accessed the warranty site... they said they have emailed me my activation code for the warranty. 15 minutes later.... still no email.
Uh huh.

Holy crap. Did the online "Help Support" on the warranty company, purchased through amazon...
25 minutes and a zillion questions. Finally got the email with a link to a shipping label.
Shipping label is in gif format and I had to manually rotate and resize it in order to get it to print on a single piece of paper.
They really don't want you using the warranty.
When they get the old player (IF they decide to record it, I think), the refund is in the form of an "E-Gift card." I wonder what that is going to be.

Fuming, and overreacting because I am dieting and hangry.
Just got kicked out of the indoor lap pool, 20 minutes into my workout.
Was told that because the outdoor pool was now open, they don't want two pools open at the same time. I tell her that in years, this was a first. She shrugged.
Go to the huge outdoor pool. Four lanes are roped off for lap swim, the other half is just open swim, with no lanes.
The four lap lanes are already filled with some swim team, ten kids per lane.
Workout over.
Dry off, go to the front desk, ask what's up.
Am told the same thing, nobody uses the indoor pool in summer so it is closed. I say i and others just got kicked out of the indoor pool, it was getting used. She shrugged.
I said all the outdoor lap lanes were already filled with a swim team. She shrugged.
I said there was basically no open lap swim any more, then. "Sorry."
Very fucking irritated. I don't think I have any lapswim alternates.
