My friend has the copy of Mac OS X that runs on a PC. He offered me a copy, but I have no use for it.
We work on Macs here at work about twice a year. Oddly enough we have one in here now and this morning I looked up the hold the function key during startup option mentioned in that article because it kept booting to OS 9 instead of OS X.
You should have posted that yesterday.

Lost is relative. iPod is the best mp3 player out there. Lotsa people would go Mac if they knew they could keep Windows too.All while trying to convince their cultists that it's their idea and "cool."

And I don't understand your first statement. You're saying that they were forced this way by the market, and didn't choose to go to Intel, per se? Or that the market forced them to make XP on their machine too? The first is true. The latter is not.
It's not me, it's someone else.
I'm still trying to figure why a company would willingly convery to Intel. Weren't they the fuckers that made PC CPU architecture wildly inefficient & crappy?
IBM was waiting on Motorola to give them the CPU, but Intel had a paste-&-glue special ready to go before Motorola? PCs became Intel-based & Macs went w\ the Motorola? Or was I smoking crack that day?

iPod is the best mp3 player out there.
1. That's a matter of opinion.
2. mp3 players as we currently know them are a passing fad. My phone can play video, surf the web, make calls, and play mp3s.
While apple dominates the market in that area, their sales have been shrinking as other players have jumped in.
Lotsa people would go Mac if they knew they could keep Windows too.
Lotsa people have sex without protection because they can, doesn't mean they should.

Seriously, MOST people still wouldn't and they are who matter. Sure some tech heads would, but they are a very small part of the market. Remember, things are ALWAYS geared to the lowest common denominator.

With the XP thing, I know they weren't "forced", as in they had to do it now, however I do think the market will be better for them if their machines can do XP. Just think, more than two applications would be able to run on a MAC!!!

1. Well, it's the opinion of the market, and that's who matters.
I made the same point to my Mac-owning co-workers.
My wife's last laptop would probably have been a Mac had this been available then. She really only wants the PC for the game-playing. Other than that, she doesn't need much from the PC, so a Mac would work fine.

Market opinion says McDonalds must be a fabulous restaurant, too.
I'll never own an iPod mainly due to the fact they require you to use iTunes with it. Not only do I not like the propriatary software for it's own sake concept, but I've had person after person tell me that iTunes completely hosed their Windows install.

Now that this story is really going mainstream, I have to ask, with Apple now running Intel chips and creating software so people can dual boot to Windows, why do people want to buy a MAC?
The vast majority of homes and businesses run MS based PCs. Why would anyone want to go get a MAC just because it can run Windows when Apple themselves proclaim they won't support it.
And what makes Apple hardware special now that they're using Intels? The pretty colors?
If I were MS I'd call a press conference for tomorrow and announce:
"We here at Microsoft are very, very proud and flattered that our competitor Apple has found itself so out of touch with consumers and so irrelevent that they have had to make our OSs able to run on their machines just to entice people to buy them since their own product doesn't seem to be something people want. Unfortunately, we here at Microsoft did not design any of the Microsoft OSs to run on Apple and therefore cannot support them if they are installed on one."
(For you peeps at Redmond who visit us from time to time, feel free to use that one.)

How in the FUCK does a Mac manage to hang for a full 60-120 seconds everytime emacs autosaves a fucking .java file that's MAYBE 200 lines long?

A lot of people *want* a Mac because it's simple, or because they're used to it, or because they work at a newspaper or graphic arts company and used them at work. But they are hesitant to get Macs because they might need to run Windows applications.
For example if you want a Macapplications for work, but XP for games with XP on a Mac you can run Far Cry and Doom 3 with high-end graphics options turned on.
I can see how this would be a beig relief to people who want Mac's, but are afraid of being without XP.
I get what you're saying Paul and I understand that market is there, but I was refering more to the mainstream.
Since you do refer to Apple cultists like graphic artists, just installing XP on their system is going to be a huge blow to their pride, no matter who made it possible and/or why.
It means they need an MS product. that's pretty much the exact opposite of what they and Apple have been telling us.

Not calling you out just curious because I have itunes on my PC and while I haven't had any issues I would be interested in knowing if there are things I should look for?
I hated itunes in the beginning, mainly just how the song were arranged in the program. But after I used it for a bit I was able to figure my way around and the purely cosmetic issues that I had didn't bother me anymore.
I also like it because it is the only ripping program that I have used that has gotten every CD I put in correct. Others I would put in Moterhead and it would tell me that the CD is one from Poveratii.
Now, versions released in the last couple years may not be as good... but I've got an old version squirrelled away.................................... if you know what i mean.I'll've to check that shit out. It burn things good, too?And I rip with DBPower Amp.
