I dunno if I've reviewed this sucker before, but I can't find it in the archives. It feels oddly familiar, though.
By the tenth entry in a series, the idea of doing a straight horror flick isn't a good idea. Taking cues from flicks like "Scream," Jason X sets out to be a flick for the fans, provided they aren't expecting to be scared too much.
The heroine & the droid have talent above that of most actors to find themselves on a "Friday the 13th" set, but it don't mean that it's anywhere near "good." The captain is a rather shallow fucker, as are most of the security team, & the rest of the crew for that matter. The most entertaining to watch is Brodski, the Romero-type "ass-kicking black dude."
The writers manage to work in some fairly funny dialogue & keep the body count high with several explosions thrown in for good measure. The director keeps the pace going as quick & bloody as possible which certainly helps as there isn't much of an original story to tell & most of the cannon fodder can't act for shit.
Verdict : 2 stars. Entertaining, but a bit too self-aware for its own good.
