This film picks up shortly after IV lets out. Freddy returns because he wants to be reborn in the child of the chick that beat him in the climax of IV. Or maybe Freddy returns cos New Line Cinema just wanted another few million.
The plot of IV is recycled with a small twist taken from the pages of III. Even within the realm of Freddy mythology, this picture takes huge leaps in logic. The chain of events seem to serve only to lead up to the technically well-done but aesthetically unimpressive finale. In what becomes a trend, the characters saved in the previous becomes the first victims in this creativity bankrupt & since you didn't care about them in IV, you certainly don't care about them in V.
This was a film that could've theoretically ended the series that was originally intended to be done after a single feature. Then New Line stretched it out. Wes tried to stop it at III, but that had enough success to sustain two more sequels, both of which were half-assed carbon copies of III in the same way II was a shit-hole rehashing of I.
Verdict : 1 star cos of frequent death scenes; whenever an actor dies, it means I don't've to watch them act anymore.
