So the new expansion "Blood" is due to be released in the next month or two.
Aside from one thing we are all excited about( A missile centric Battlecruiser)
There has also been talk of a faction system, much like the one that UO had effect. It is believed that the Caldari, Gallente, Amarr, and Mimtar factions would be fighting each other. Noone quite knows the details yet, but a few things to note.
We are all Caldari
50% of the playerbase is Caldari
Many of the good, old, pvpers are NOT Caldari.(Gallente,Amarr)
Nomads are all Caldari!
Could be fun.

I've never been one for meaningless combat. Which is what I thought factions were in UO. Introduced sooooo many bad things to UO. Newbified weapons. Uber weapons. Field spells only affecting a known hostile, etc. And the meaningless part was, there was no point to it. If you started losing, you switched teams. You started losing, you left factions. There was no end to it. You couldn't 'win'. The closest thing to 'winning' was your faction score, which people cheated at. Now granted, EVE is NOT uo. However, when someone says 'factions', right off, I don't like it. 
I've always been one for destroying guillds (corps in EVE's case obviously). Find one that's mean/bad/moronic and beat it into oblivion. Hunt the members so much that they quit, play a different character, or quit the corp such that the corp end up dying. You couldn't do that in factions. There was an endless supply of resources and the only thing you got was some stupid ladder score. I'm in it for the victory!!
I'll of course wait to see what factions are all about. However, as much as I like to PvP, mindless/pointless PvP gets boring to me. I like to win!! Complete destruction of the enemy. Just my early informationless thoughts on the subject. Also, how will it handle corps with a mixed race membership thing. If half your corp is Amarr and half Caldari. . . which faction are you in?
Oh ya, not to mention spies. There was NOTHING you could do about spies as anyone could join, and no one could kick you out.
