Windows 10
Real change to what? A Mac like OS where users have zero control or freedom? Linux where they'll have too much and routinely break their PCs causing people to be even more afraid of their computers?
Not to mention the Linux "we run clean" argument seems to have the same logic behind it as Apple's "we're free of viruses and malware". Both are dependent upon them maintaining a very low market share.
There should be an alternative to Windows to keep them honest, but OSs on the extremes aren't the answer.
And please don't sign me up for an OS with only a share of Steam's library. Yeah, they might have some of the bigger titles, but not all of them. Plus, they'd more than likely miss out on a lot of the cheaper, Indy titles that are a blast.

A real company would have to release it as a real product. Linux OS programming is a million times less insane than Windows OS programming. MS purposely made it so it's a bitch and a half.

No, there are fundamental differences in how the OSs work. There are some extremely secure flavours of Linux I'd dare someone to hack. They're presently about as user-friendly as a WWI biplane, though.

I'm saying if Linux had to be created for the masses, aka Windows, you'd see a lot of the same issues, and probably some Linux specific ones.
Look at the cell phone market. Every provider (att, Verizon, etc.) and every cell phone OS (iOS, droid, etc.) has pros and cons.

I think processor power and memory have ramped up to the point where, no, a properly designed OS would kill windows and wouldn't have a lot of the same security problems. Most of those stem from developers and architects cutting every corner humanly possible to make sure their C language commands could run in decent time on hardware back in the fucking '70s. That's how you get the basis of 90% of the non-social engineering hacks in the world today, stack smashing, because C doesn't fucking check array range limits at compile or run time.

I think I know why MS is pushing windows 10 like it'll jack you off in your sleep.
More interestingly, nearly 20 percent of Microsoft's search revenue in September was driven by Windows 10 devices, executives said. By building Cortana, Microsoft's personal digital assistant powered by Bing, directly into Windows 10, Microsoft is automatically increasing the number of Bing searches.

But the crashing every day or two is annoying.
On topic: I may let one machine go to W10 just to check it out.
It's not me, it's someone else.
The machine I'm on right now has Windows 10. I'm having no issues. In fact, some issues I had with my video card and Windows 7 are gone.

Adoption rates level out.

By offering free upgrades for consumers through next fall, Microsoft is hoping to break the cycle in which the most popular Windows versions are outdated or unsupported.

From the Google head of design, which is more than a bit biased. Google ought to stfu about shitty OS design until they produce a version of Android that doesn't choke my phone to death. Google is every bit as evil as Microsoft, they're just more talented and creative.

Google sucks.
Their shitty phones only dominate the consumer market because the carriers basically give them away for free.
I wouldn't call them more talented and creative than Microsoft. Apple, yes, but Microsoft is talented and creative, they just don't design products for anyone.
You know how Microsoft soft came out with Windows 10 phone that are actually getting good reviews? Google responded by breaking Wave for Windows phones.

I've known people who've interviewed with them and worked there. Their interview process weeds those people out. Additionally, and I know I'm a minority, but they do allegedly design products for software developers. That's how I know I'm correct about my other conclusion ... I can see the shitty design every day. They only survive in that market because Java + Oracle is actually worse and MS has a monopoly on .Net

And their Nexus phones are straight-up awesome.
I use:
Google Chrome
Google Gmail
Google Nexus phones
Google Chromecast
Google Calendar
Google Fi for wireless service
Google Voice
And Google Fiber is building out right now.

I used to also use all Google products, until one day they destroyed Google Reader and taught me that I can never trust them to maintain a product I want to use and that I should always find alternatives to Google, and leave them before they find a new way to screw me again.
Yes, I'm still bitter about Google Reader.
