I put my number on the list the day it was available. I'm always polite the first time I get a call from someone.

Ditto, and I honestly do not get telemarketer calls.

Actually, let me correct that...

I DO get them, but only to my office, and the Red Cross.

The ones that call my office are cold calls. They suck, and I have a receptionist who weeds some out, plus voicemail gets the rest. I did successfully eliminate toner companies from calling. Every time they called I explained that it was company policy that I could NOT purchase toner over the phone. It took a few months, but eventually they all stopped calling.

The Red Cross is a separate issue. You want to talk about annoying? Give blood. They are relentless and change their numbers often. They call you non-stop until you give, which buys you a two month call free window, then it's game on.

But starting with call #2 I consider them fair game for whatever abuse I feel like dishing out at that particular moment.

I'd give them 2 attempts to take you off the list in case the first caller was a lazy asshole who didn't take you off.

So what? They are the ones calling me. I didn't ask them to.

I won't dispute that because I'm honestly not defending telemarketers just some of the folks in that job.

I'm really surprised to find you defending them. I thought you put value in being considerate and polite. IMO telemarketing as a profession is the exact antithesis of being considerate and polite.

Eh again, I'm defending a small portion of folks, not the industry. The industry is a villain, not all of the people within it. I actually think I'm being considerate and polite defending some folks that nobody else will.

If I had a daughter I'd be much more disappointed if she became a telemarketer than if she became a stripper.

That's the quote of the day. They should make that into a poster.

I would be happier with my son becoming a flaming liberal than if he became a telemarketer.

And I'm putting that on facebook.

TPR do you listen to Bill Burr's podcasts? The last one, "Thursday Afternoon Monday Morning Podcast" from 7/9/15 is pretty good and dives into this subject a bit.

He rants about how all these corporations ask for your name, address, email address, and phone number when you're buying gum or getting a haircut. He always refuses, and doesn't join any loyalty program either. He talks about how they don't want to make less money, so he knows they're up to something. Obviously, this information is used to track your purchases so they know what they can mark up and what to mark down (to be fair). They also sell your info to other companies resulting in telemarketing calls.

I know whenever my phone number is requested I always change the last number to an 8. Except for the damn Red Cross...who knew?
