An Italian surveillance company known for selling malicious software used by police bodies and spy agencies appears to have succumbed to a damaging cyberattack that sent documents and invoices ricocheting across the Internet.

Even after being hacked, the firm is still delusional.

He went on to say that the company was relatively harmless since it doesn't "sell guns that could be used for years," and added that "we're the good guys." Sure thing, buddy.

Hacking Team produces Da Vinci, a platform that enables governments to monitor encrypted communications. The technology is used by law enforcement officials to read your email, listen in to your Skype chats and secretly watch you via your own webcam or smartphone camera.

I try to have sympathy for these dudes whose livelihood has been significantly dented. Then I read about their boss making idiotic statements like this, and I want to watch them go down in flames.

Why? Collaborators are just as guilty as the tyrants they serve and thus rarely deserve any sympathy.

They were making money by assisting with the government scrapping our civil right to privacy. Fuck their livelihoods.

I also feel no sympathy when I tell a telemarketer to go fuck their mother and hang up. They shouldn't be doing that job.

Indeed. Telemarketers have taken up being rudely invasive into people's lives as a career, so fuck them as well they deserve any verbal abuse leveled at them.

"Yeah, kicking people in the nuts is a terrible job, but these people have families to feed/etc etc."

They shouldn't have families if all they can do is to work at the low-paying nut-kicking factory. Inconveniencing me is not an industry I wish to support. Plus the fuckers are calling my cell phone at that's a minute off my plan each time.

I'm the guy they are being paid to piss off. They're job is to be a professional interrupting asshole. Fuck 'em.

I have similar feelings about debt collectors except that most of their targets are responsible for their own situation. But the one's that won't take "I have no idea who the hell Lakisha is, stop calling my fucking cell phone already" as an answer and will just keep calling anyway can choke on a dick.

There's a guy down in Alvin, TX, that gets about $50k a year in judgements against telemarketers. But it's pretty much all he does with his time, and I imagine that collecting on those judgements can be a pain.

I'm just saying that some jobs suck, and who are we to judge the people forced to take it over starving. Being a stripper is a terrible job for 98% of the women who do it, but you guys aren't complaining about them.

Well, too be fair, there are things you can do to prevent telemarketing calls too.

If you curse at them or hang up on them or whatever, and there's a legit dick on the other end (and not someone stuck in a shitty job who hates their life), then you will be put on a "call more often" list. Didn't we post an article about this a few years back?

Register your number on the Do Not Call list. Be polite and ask to be removed from their list. Take notes of when they call if they continue to and then you can sue.

I don't get telemarketing calls since I put my number on the do not call list. It also helps that my wife lost six cordless phones in three months, and we haven't bothered replacing them.

You could also do what some standup comedians do and fuck with the telemarketers. Although, I think that probably gets them on the call more often list.

I put my number on the list the day it was available. I'm always polite the first time I get a call from someone.

But starting with call #2 I consider them fair game for whatever abuse I feel like dishing out at that particular moment.

I'm really surprised to find you defending them. I thought you put value in being considerate and polite. IMO telemarketing as a profession is the exact antithesis of being considerate and polite.
