What earned country music such a high score? It doesn't use filler words like "oh" and "yeah," while it does cash in some lyrical ten-dollar words often, such as "Hallelujah," "cigarettes" and "tacklebox." It also uses long geographical names, such as Mississippi and Louisiana, while R&B/hip-hop uses less complex city names, like L.A. and New York.

The fuck? What 'tard came up with that scale?

I remember using software back in high school that would check my grammar, and it also provided a reading level. Basically, it looked at sentence length and # of syllables per word, and spit out a number. Which sounds like what they are doing here.

Brevity is the soul of wit. Overly complex design is the mark of a shitty engineer, even if it's a verbal engineer.

There was a conversation here over a decade ago, Pink Floyd versus, like, NSync, using average syllables to determine the "intelligence level" of the music, or some such thing. Not going to bother even trying to find that conversation. Might have even been the prototype incarnation of Thunderdome.
