NOW, I will say that I *think* that ALCAR does help a bit. Beyond that...I think just drinking coffee is probably enough.

I find my brain is kept in the best shape by stretching the portions I worked. Anything that makes both hemispheres pump is optimal. I could assimilate and spout back huge amounts of info in school, I'm somewhat certain it's because a large portion of the classes I selected tended to be half math and half imagination in that they let me combine mathematical concepts like legos.

I'm willing to give the equivalent of mental steroids a shot, though, considering the number of sleep aids I've sampled.

The two most effective things i've found:
1. Melatonin. Puts me right out. Good sleep is important for so many things, and melatonin is so cheap. It's gold.
2. Caffeine. Even enhances physical performance: I can lift more after downing a 5-hour energy than I can without. Also can be had in cheaper forms.

I sometimes wonder if caffeine is responsible for the intellectual revolution Europe had 500 years ago. I mean, the ancient Greeks and Romans were quite impressive, but look what happened when people stopped drinking alcohol all the time and switched to caffeine.

Interesting. I took melatonin in college. Gave some nice lucid dreams too on occasion.

I don't know about right out, but it makes it far less likely I wake up in the middle of the night. I also make a pitcher of this on occasion, although there are two key rules to follow, as in "if you don't, it may be fatal."

Gave some nice lucid dreams too on occasion.

It's been known to turn dreams up to 11. Quite the double-edged sword if you don't get along with your subconscious.

After all, it’s like the nutritional complement to Soylent, the Metamucil-like beverage pitched as a more efficient replacement for food that’s becoming known among the “work hard/study hard” crowd of engineers and college students.

Thinking about trying some Soylent. When I skip out on calories at breakfast, the afternoon cardio takes a hit.

My morning breakfast:
2 eggs (usually scrambled)
3 pieces of bacon (+ / - 1) - Unless I'm doing cardio/race early, then I skip the bacon as it tends to cause cramping.
100-200 calories of carbs (currently an Eggo Waffle + butter)

About 500 calories, 27g Carbs, 31g Fat, 26g Protein, which is about the 25% C / 50% Fat / 25% Protein I aim for.

I don't skip breakfast.

No breakfast. For lunch, half pound of deli meat + sweet potato on lift days, 2 eggs + bacon on non-lift days.

One thing I've found is that I can skip 1 meal a day, as long as it's a bookend meal. So either miss breakfast or dinner, but not lunch. Any time I missed lunch, I'd gorge at dinner.

Right now I'm doing 3 500 calories meals + snack if I do extended cardio.

Thinking about trying some Soylent. When I skip out on calories at breakfast, the afternoon cardio takes a hit.

Soylent took 6 fucking months to ship a 7-day supply. Reorders should only take a couple weeks. House sitting this week, so I'm using it to replace a meal a day. Would mix perfectly with the kava. Blends well, doesn't mix that great. Website. I don't think this is going to replace food, but it seems like something I'd keep using. The ingredient proportions in their manual (yeah, it comes with a manual ... and release notes) are also a bit inconsistent given the measurements on the oil bottle. After blending/mixing, looks like Mississippi river water unless you add in something with a more pleasant hue. Also a lot better chilled than over ice. I'm vaguely considering making it the morning beverage, but only if I add some of this. I'm somewhat taken aback there's a website that lets me buy twenty-five motherfucking kilos of speed's more socially acceptable little brother.

EDIT :
Soylent took 6 fucking months to ship a 7-day supply. Reorders should only take a couple weeks.

Newsletter says they just got $20M USD in additional funding. Means the back orders should be gone when they get up to speed with their two new manufacturing partners.

Signing up for the 14 bags/month plan. 42 meals, $130. Had the 28 bags/month ($255) plan been around when I was in undergrad, I would've jumped all over that. Could've paid for it with research experiments alone.
