That's an insane comparison.
You really think the government officials are removing these statues for the same reasons the Taliban dynamited ancient buildings and sculpture?

also, stick with the "insane" terminology. it's a good way to persuade people to your point of view.
I didn't say you were insane, I said the comparison was. But if you really think they are similar...
I also didn't say you said I was insane, I was addressing your usage of the word, and implied it was inflammatory.
There is no way people in this country are going to come together again without a war, and we're learning that one side considers the other unworthy of respect. Might as well fight to the bitter end, then.

The zealotry seems pretty similar to me.

Yes, well, if they're going to use swastikas, inflammatory is the least of the issues.

I think they're scum.
I also like freedom.
What a quandary.

Remember that little catch phrase after trump got elected, "This is not normal?"
You can say that again.

I like freedom as well. We had a war to beat down the Nazis the first time, and I see no problem with doing it agian.

And the awesome thing is, we can apply the "Nazi" label to whomever we want, now, and it sticks.

Not an untrue statement, but the false equivalence... the "there were good guys on both sides" stuff... just... I cant event.
Oh, I agree. But most of the press and the left are doing the same by not acknowledging the really bad stuff that happened with Antifa. Jake Tapper (one of the last remaining journalists) tweeted out a few incidents from the protest of reporters being assaulted by Antifa. One was concussed and hospitalized for 4 days.
This is starting to feel like the 2016 election again. I don't like either side and one side is shrieking "What?! You want to Nazis to win?!" and the other side shrieking, "What?! You want the Communists to win?!"
That's why I was saying in the other thread that this looks to be turning into what happened in the Weimar Republic. We're being presented a false choice of two really bad sides.

I was trying to think yesterday when the left actually went insane. It seemed to happen after Bush beat Kerry in 2004. That was when you really had the left showcasing Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink and the Rainbow Jihadists. Those groups were energized and excited and ready to support a Democrat agenda. They were also riddled with people that were anti-Capitalist and sympathetic to Communism. The Democrats considered them useful idiots and welcomed them with open arms. But now the inmates are running the asylum in their party. And that's a LOT of why anyone other than Hillary won, and Democrats have lost about 1000 elected seats at the state and federal level since 2010.
Last year was when I started using Twitter. I saw the Alt-Right there during the primaries. They were an army that would defend anyone that was praising Trump and launch the most vile and hateful Twitter assaults on anyone that didn't. I knew then that if we on the right didn't distance ourselves from these guys, it was going to come back to haunt us as it did the left with the Communists. The press isn't going to spend a lot of time differentiating the Alt-Right from the conservative right. Even though the "Alt" in Alt-Right means "Alternative" as in "a different product" from the right that was already in existence.

I'm going to start with the people carrying Nazi flags and swastikas. Cuz, you know, Nazis.

Agree, and at the same time, I think people are failing to contextualize. It's not like all of America showed up in Charlottesville this weekend and picked a side. It was thousands of people, ~0.00001% of the US.

Oh, I agree with that as well. It's in the aftermath that some seem to want to present us with a "if you're not on our side you're on their side" mentality.
I would point out though that history is replete with instances of a relatively small group creating so much chaos that the general public cries out for someone just to make it stop and someone does. And they implement some form of marshal law and everything calms. And then everyone realizes they are in a totalitarian state. I've already been hearing cries of "someone has to stop this madness".

This is rational and I wish everyone else saved the "nazi" label for actual nazis, because yeah, a uniformed nazi.... I can almost see "punching them."
Something about the mob tearing down civil war statues still doesn't sit right with me, though.

I have a distant relative I haven't' blocked yet. Just happened to catch a repost he made of "at least I'm not an america-hating liberal..."
god damn, the comments are full of anger. "If you support any part of trump then you are a racist," comments.
America has picked sides.

Doesn't bother me. The governments should be removing them anyway, or relocating them to battlefields or museums. The South fought for slavery, the South lost. The end.

I like how one of the statues torn down was a memorial for the children conscripted into the Southerner army. Fuck those traitors, they lost.

I don't really disagree with this sentiment, but I agree with Gordo that this doesn't sit right with me for mobs to tear them down for the same principles you are saying here. Elect people that are willing to take them down. If you can't, you fought to defeat a statue, you lost, the end. Otherwise it pretty much is like the Taliban destroying things just because they are offended by them without regard to law.

I was told that was an insane comparison. FYI.

I try to be consistent in my beliefs. I don't agree with the criminal destruction of private or public property. Because laws.
