The stories about Cruise having the movie rewritten to be about his character are true because we're supposed to believe Cruise's character isn't just a good guy, he's a thief with a heart of gold.
The main villain's henchmen are literally ancient corpses and can be beaten with a stick, yet somehow they are too much for most of the no names in the movie to handle. They swim, they climb, they run, etc. All bullshit. You're dust! Water and a stiff wind should be able to beat you easily.
I found Hyde to be under powered as well.
Tom Cruise killed a franchise here before it got started. I can't fathom a studio giving him this sort of power going forward.
Brendan Frasier's Mummy is light years better.

I was here at the beginning. I was thinking this wasn't nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe. Then I was a little excited when Cruise walked in the lab area and they had the vampire skull, etc. Then they introduced Crowe's character and it felt like the whole tone of the movie went to shtick.
